On October 7th, The Undisputed Heavyweights played at Piano’s (of Ludlow Street) to a wild audience, full of dance club members, thank the Lord. I joined full-on dance club, though I wasn’t as good as the swing dancing people. It shames me.
Two guys asked me and Jessi if he could throw our “panties” (panties?!) onstage. Thankfully Jessi handed him her jacket to keep him distracted. Casey Shea went all out, the perfect Jessi Robertson/Gareth description as a mix between James Brown and Mick Jagger, dancing all over the stage, acting dark and moody during “Casey” calling for AMENs, and Sweet Jesuses, flailing his pink arms about and kicking the blue light. I saw some old men dancing. That was pretty cool. I don’t really see a lot of old men dance. Maybe they were the founders of the dance club. Wait no, those are the panty-throwers.
The Heavyweights fuse all different types of music and are insanely talented on their instruments, they get 30 gold stars (School of Rock, thank you Jack Black).
There should be a ton of photographs up somewhere soon. But for now, bow in the presence of the almighty heavyweights and check them out, every Friday night in October, 10 pm, Piano’s.
