I got to Bar4 late last night, after navigating from Fresh Meadows, Queens to Brooklyn by car (bah! a difficult task, I say!) so I only got to see Keith Varick play. I walked in and felt so good to be greeted by my friends. Greg, the man, at the bar, always with a huge grin on his face (check out his band, seems so bright) Larry, the man at the sound who never stops running from wall to wall, his head spinning, and Jessi whose hat I missed from the previous night. Keith was sensational as always. His haunting vocals and guitar patterns resonated through Bar4, and made the walls feel like they were stretching in on us. He makes me feel my bones, if you know what I mean, my heart behind my ribs…Keith Varick’s songs are beautiful, the most comparison I’ve heard is of his vocals to the lead singer of Radiohead, though his music is very different, in a very hard-to-describe-and-pinpoint way. Lovely, lovely night.
