Welcome to the Local Correspondents Community

What is “LC”?

Local Correspondents is a supportive community for independent artists based in Brooklyn. Weekly showcase series and open mic nights bring together an extremely talented and diverse group of performers.

We offer a helping hand to artists that have just moved to the NYC area with advice, tips, and opportunities to play. Many consider us to be a warm urban family. At the same time, we maintain high standards. We look for talented songwriters with unique voices, who care about the community and respect their peers. We have built our reputation on this and it allows us to introduce many new musicians to the local scene.

A typical Local Correspondents event (or “LC” to the locals) is a group of friends and neighbors sharing the experience of listening to artfully crafted songs.

History

Local Correspondents was founded by Tanya Buziak, Larry Hyland, Greg Tuohey, and Jessi Robertson in April of 2005. It started as a monthly showcase at Bar4, then grew to include weekly showcases at Bar4 and Matchless, and monthly showcases at Rockwood Music Hall.

In the spring of 2007, we held the first LC Music Fest at Bar4 which lasted for four nights and included over 50 local acts. In 2008 the second LC Music Fest was expanded to five nights and included over 60 performers. We also recently celebrated the 3rd Anniversary of our showcase series at Rockwood Music Hall with over 30 artists performing. Coming up this spring, LC Music Fest 2009!

Please join us each week for showcases, open mics, and more at Bar4, Matchless, Public Assembly in Brooklyn and Rockwood Music Hall in Manhattan.
