Bar4 Backline

The stage at Bar4 is perfect for small bands, acoustic sets, and solo singer/songwriters. Not suitable for large bands or loud groups. Backline includes:

1. 12 channel board with 6 – 8 inputs
2. 3 microphones
3. small guitar amp
4. bass amp
5. 4 piece drum kit
6. upright piano

Matchless Backline

Matchless has a full backline. The venue’s capacity is approximately 95 and the stage is 17x13x2. Matchless is perfect for bands, small acoustic acts, and solo singer/songwriters. Backline includes:

1. 16 channel board w/ 20 inputs and full range of effects
2. 3 microphones
3. 2 small guitar amp
4. bass amp combo and cab
5. 5 piece drum kit

Drummers must bring cymbals, sticks and a kick pedal. If a second amp is required, please bring a small one.

Public Assembly Backline

Public Assembly has a full backline and top of the line sound system including a nice selection of guitar & bass amps, DJ equipment, turntables, hardware, lighting, and projectors. Bring only what you need to feel comfortable and achieve your sound but as space is very limited please bring as little equipment as possible. We have great sounding Slingerland drum kits with all the hardware. Drummers- bring your own cymbals, felts, and sticks. If you choose you may also bring snare, throne, pedal, and hardware but DO NOT BRING full drumkits.

Information for Performers

We strive to maintain accurate set times, however, due to typical event occurrences, set times may begin later than originally scheduled. If you want to start your set later than the scheduled time, be prepared to play a shorter set. A sound engineer will be in attendance at all events. Both bars generously provide drink tickets for the performers. We will either have a tip jar available at the stage area, or pass the tip jar during your performance based on our judgment of whether it is appropriate given the number of audience members in the venue.

We want to feature great music in a warm and supportive community event. More than anything, we want to make this a memorable and enjoyable experience for both performers and audience members. We expect our performers to act professionally and courteously, whether dealing with employees or audience members. Come prepared to hear some very gifted musicians play, relax, have a few drinks, and play your music for us!

When is Sign Up?

6:30pm drawing

6:30pm – 7:30pm sign up

What is the drawing for?

At promptly 6:30pm we will ask everyone in the bar to draw a number. You will be called up in sequential order starting with number 1 and allowed to pick the open spot you would like to play. We do this to give everyone a fair shot at playing when they’d like to during the evening. If you get #1 in the drawing, you might choose to play sixteenth. It’s up to you.

What if I miss the drawing?

After the 6:30pm drawing, you may choose from the remaining open spots on the sign-up list, on a first-come first-serve basis.

What if I’m playing a show at Bar4?

Spots 5, 10, and 15 will be reserved each week for people that are playing at Bar4 in the coming week on a first-come first-serve basis. If you would like one of these spots, please ask the sound person if one is available when your number is called in the drawing. We cannot reserve these spaces ahead of time. It is a courtesy for our community members that would like to promote their upcoming shows.

When does the music start?

Open Mic begins at 7:30pm sharp.

What is “late night”?

“Late night” at the open mic is anything after 2am. It can be a great time to play and a lot of well-known local artists have a tendency to drop in unexpectedly. If you are playing during the “Late night” portion of the open mic, ask the bartender for a drink ticket good for a free Bar4 Lager or a free well drink. This is little thanks from us to you for making the late night portion of the evening so much fun.

How do I book a show?

Send all booking inquiries to bookingbar4@gmail.com. You must include a link to a website where we can hear your music online. We prefer MySpace but also accept ReverbNation, FaceBook, iLike, Last.fm, PureVolume, Sonicbids, and personal websites.

Matchless Open Mic every Sunday

Hosted by Tanya Buziak. Every Sunday, musicians from Brooklyn and beyond line-up to play at this ex-motorcycle shop turned bar. Matchless is also one of the hottest new live music venues in Brooklyn.

Starting around 6:30pm Sunday evenings, sign-up with our host Tanya Buziak. Tanya will allow you to pick your spot based on the order you arrive (first come, first served). Performers usually play two songs. However, in some cases there will be one song round, depending on the number of people signed up that evening.

Rockwood Music Hall Residency – Last Mondays

Local Correspondents hosts a residency night every last Monday of the month at Rockwood Music Hall featuring new local artists and some of our favorite established musicians. We pick these musicians from the folks that play at our showcases at both Bar4 and Matchless.
